MoA Animations
A mechanism of action (MoA) animation is a visual representation of how a specific drug or treatment interacts with the body at a molecular level to produce its therapeutic effects. It helps healthcare professionals and patients understand the intricate processes involved in the treatment's effectiveness.
A MoA animation typically includes three acts that illustrate the process on an anatomical, cellular, and molecular level. The first act displays the healthy state, the second act shows the disease state, and the third act demonstrates how therapeutic agents bind to a protein to combat the disease.
MoD Animations
A mechanism of disease (MoD) animation goes beyond simply illustrating the symptoms of a disease, delving into the intricate biological processes that contribute to its development and progression. By visualizing these underlying mechanisms, healthcare professionals can gain a deeper understanding of the disease pathology and potential treatment targets.
Our team is committed to producing MoD animations that are both scientifically accurate and engaging, utilizing the expertise of our animators and medical professionals. We strive to simplify complex concepts while maintaining strong logic, ensuring our animations are immersive, informative, and effective as a communication tool.
MoA and MoD Animation Examples
MoA animations and MoD animations come in a wide range of forms. We have recently created a 6-minute MoD animation, showing how a certain cytokine is involved in several autoimmune diseases, educating healthcare specialists on the latest scientific findings at conventions and demonstrating how a client is at the forefront of scientific research. Others are more specific and can be as short as one minute or less. An MoA animation film we created for Flagship Pioneering explains the technology behind eRNA (a form of circular RNA) primarily for online purposes, presenting it in a concise and effective manner.

Some MoA animations and MoD animations focus on different areas such as medical devices or animal health. Below is one of three modes of action of a probiotic (CLOSTAT) that we visualized, aimed at informing farmers, who are potential users of CLOSTAT. We were commissioned by Kemin Industries, and the film was highly awarded, including winning Gold at the prestigious New York Festivals.

MoA and MoD Illustrations
A client can also choose to have a Mechanism of Action or Mechanism of Disease illustration developed instead of an MoA or MoD animation. These MoA illustrations are often used for website communication purposes and are included in company slide decks. MoA illustrations can effectively communicate your narrative, explain your technology concisely, and keep costs limited. Examples of illustrations we have created for clients include Rejuvenation Technologies and GRObio.
In a later phase, GRObio opted to have an animation developed using the 3D assets that were created during the development of their previous MoA illustrations. This led to a short and effective MoA animation (see below the illustration).

MoA Animations are used by:
Medical students: MoA animations help gain a deeper understanding of drug mechanisms for various indications.
Patients: MoA animations serve as an educational tool to explain treatments and alleviate fears, and give better insight for treatment decisions.
Investors and stakeholders: MoA animations are valuable in showcasing new drug candidates and securing funding.
Sales representatives: MoA animations are used as training tools to boost scientific knowledge and sales.
Marketing teams: MoA animations are integrated into digital campaigns to enhance brand awareness and engage stakeholders effectively.
Corporate communications teams: MoA animations are used for engaging content at conferences and events.
Medical affairs teams: MoA animations are utilised for disease state awareness on digital channels and at in-person events.
Powerful Communication Tools
Whether it is a MoA animation, a MoD animation, or an illustration, these are powerful communication tools. They can have different goals and different audiences, whether it is to convince investors or educate healthcare specialists. They project a strong high-tech image and can quickly communicate complex information.
